Lata (Hen)nailed the title track

The spelling of Henna in Main Hoon Khushrang Henna, the title song of Henna, must have confused many a listener. It was spelled with two ns, but pronounced Heena (i e, with two es).

Typo or no typo, it was surely the type of track with which one would associate Lata Mangeshkar, because only she could have done justice to it.

There were two versions of the song in the film – the happy version and the sad one. This blog only has a post on the former.

There was a song on the soundtrack of Henna which could be dedicated to a person who thinks it is fashionable to be late.

It went, “Main der karta nahin, der ho jaati hai.”

That can be translated to, “I don’t deliberately get late. The delay is by itself.”

If there was one man who thought Hindi film music buffs were so gullible that they would believe the aforementioned statement, it was Ravindra Jain, who penned and composed the track.

It was rendered by Suresh Wadkar, who was joined behind the microphone by Lata Mangeshkar.

Henna (1991) was Raj Kapoor's last film as a director. He died during its making, and it was completed by his oldest son Randhir.

The same year, it was India's submission to the 64th Academy Awards in the Best Foreign Language Film category.

The fruits of his labour seldom tasted anything but sweet, and Anar Dana, a track from the aforementioned film, was no different.

It was rendered by Lata Mangeshkar.

When translated into English, the title of the song, which was not just penned by, but also composed by Ravindra Jain, means pomegranate seeds.
