So accustomed are Hindi film music aficionados to associating S P Balasubrahmanyam's voice with Kamal Haasan and Salman Khan that it is easy to overlook the fact that he has delivered hits picturised on other stars too.

These included Sun Beliya from 100 Days, which starred Jackie Shroff. The lady who shared singing credits with Balasubrahmanyam was Lata Mangeshkar.

There is absolutely no doubt that the song continues to evoke nostalgia. And for that, we must say, “Shukriya meherbaani” to a little-known lyricist named Dilip Tahir. It remains his most popular track.

The iconic line from Sholay (1975), “Jo darr gaya, woh mar gaya”, inspired a song – Gabbar Singh Yeh Kehkar Gaya, from 100 Days (1991).

So juvenile was the track, which was penned by Ravinder Rawal, that it didn’t elicit even a chuckle, let alone the laugh for which the dacoit, played by Amjad Khan, continues to be famous.

It was composed by Vijay Patil a.k.a. Laxman of the Raamlaxman jodi. His decision to retain Raam's name following his demise would’ve prompted Gabbar to say, “Bahut yaaraana lagta hai”.
