The iconic
line from Sholay (1975), “Jo darr gaya, woh mar gaya”, inspired a
song – Gabbar Singh Yeh Kehkar Gaya,
from 100 Days (1991).
So juvenile was the track, which was penned by Ravinder Rawal, that it didn’t elicit even a chuckle, let alone the laugh for which the dacoit, played by Amjad Khan, continues to be famous.
It was composed by Vijay Patil a.k.a. Laxman of the Raamlaxman jodi. His decision to retain Raam's name following his demise would’ve prompted Gabbar to say, “Bahut yaaraana lagta hai”.
Mr Kumar and Alka Yagnik rendered (Am)it.
