In 1997,
composer Vishal Bhardwaj won the Filmfare R D Burman Award for New Music
Talent for the soundtrack of Maachis, which released in 1996. And he
deserved it.
Of the three tracks from the film on this blog, Chappa Chappa was the shortest – it was four minutes and 27 seconds long.
On listening to the song, which was rendered by Hariharan and Suresh Wadkar, a Hindi film music buff may remark that Bhardwaj’s pairing with Gulzar (who didn’t just pen it, but also directed the film) was a ‘match’ made in the melody lane.
