No (Jana)kidding, (Am)it was mediocre

The soundtrack of Ghayal (1990) was a tad better than that of its sequel, Ghayal Returns, which released 16 years later. But by no means did that imply that it was outstanding.

In fact, the next line of Pyaar Tum Mujhse Karti Ho went, “Don’t Say No”. But that must have been exactly what the listeners said on listening to it.

The track, whose opening line could be translated to, “You love me”, was penned by Anjaan and composed by the King of BLing (Bappi Lahiri).

It was rendered by Amit Kumar and S Janaki.

Sadly, (Am)it wasn’t Janaki's best

Besides being all-rounders whenever they have given their nod to a film, Dev Anand and Aamir Khan have another thing in common – they didn’t just produce, but also starred in films about cricket, the other passion of the nation.

Between Love Marriage (1959) and Lagaan (2001), the duo collaborated on Awwal Number, which released in 1990.

Of course, its soundtrack featured the ironic Poochho Na Kaisa Mazaa Aa Raha Hai.

Bappi Lahiri composed it.

While one Amit (Khanna) penned it, his namesake (Kumar) rendered it.

The latter was joined behind the microphone by S Janaki.
