(Ud)It earned Ms Paudwal An(uradh)award

Mujhe Neend Na Aaye, the song from Dil, was a declaration of insomnia, but by no means was the jury at the 36th Filmfare Awards caught napping.

While the song earned Sameer the Best Lyricist Award, Anuradha Paudwal bagged the Best Female Playback Singer Award.

She was joined behind the microphone by Udit Narayan.

The track, which was six minutes and 13 seconds long, was composed by Anand-Milind.

There is no doubt that it was, and continues to be, the most popular song in the film (and is one of the best songs of 1990).

(Ud)It was (Naray)an enjoyable track

Khambe Jaisi Khadi Hai was the shortest (and undoubtedly the catchiest) song on the soundtrack of Dil – it was five minutes and 25 seconds long.

(Ud)It was also the only male solo in the film. And no prizes for guessing who crooned it – none other than Mr Narayan.

By no means can one miss the irony – Aamir Khan, who has always been poles apart from his peers as an actor, likened his co-star, Madhuri Dixit, to a khamba (pole). And the man himself is vertically-challenged.

The track was penned by Sameer and composed by Anand-Milind.

(Ud)It surely waS(adhan)a run-of-the-mill number

Humne Ghar Chhoda Hai, from Dil, was nothing to write home about.

It was picked (purely by oversight) over Hum Pyaar Karnewale (a song that wasn’t just a tad better, but also longer*) to lend the playlist (and the blog) some much-needed variety – Sadhana Sargam rendered it.

Udit Narayan joined her behind the microphone.

The track was six minutes and 17 seconds long.

It was penned by Sameer and composed by Anand-Milind.

[*Note: Rendered by Narayan and Anuradha Paudwal, (Ud)it was the longest track in the film – it was six minutes and 56 seconds long.]

(Ud)It had (Paudw)alot of dum

What does one call a man who threatens a woman, singing, “Aaj na chhodunga tujhe” and then asks her, “Tune kya samjha hai mujhe”?

The answer to that question would be an eve-teaser.

Fortunately, they weren’t the only people who loved Dum Duma Dum, the song from Dil, which released in 1990.

Sameer penned the track, which was six minutes and 40 seconds long.

It earned Anand-Milind a nomination in the Best Music Director category at the 36th edition of the Filmfare Awards, which were held in 1991.

Mr Narayan and Anuradha Paudwal rendered (Ud)it.
