UNdeniAblY, (Am)it was (Kum)arocking number

(Ud)It was no surprise that Makhna – from Bade Miyan Chote Miyan – was a hit, because it was rendered by Alka Yagnik and Mr Narayan, who ruled the charts throughout the 1990s.

But what was a surprise was the fact that they were joined behind the microphone by none other than Amit Kumar.

The song, which had a Punjabi flavour, was penned by Sameer.

The word Makhna is Punjabi for sweetheart, and it is quite possible that many youngsters in the northern state were singing the Viju Shah composition to serenade their beloveds at that point.
